Bonne Année!

Tonight the mate and I had planned on driving downtown to visit my favorite restaurant, Quartino-- smoky mirrors, La Dolce Vita playing in the background, tiny little intimate tables, and fabulously non-fussy authentic Italian-- but, alas, we have been outwitted by the weather.

Nevertheless, I will certainly be enjoying my favorite non-Champagne (Gruet Blanc de Noirs: a New Mexico sparkling made so great by the struggle of the grapes to survive the climate [wine is a lovely metaphor for life, is it not, friends?]), and also adhering to one of my new favorite traditions: wearing red sous-vêtements on New Year's for good luck in the coming year.

This old tradition, reportedly embraced by Italians, Mexicans, Portuguese, Spanish, and other nationalities, is a fun yet mysterious tradition, both invisible and ubiquitous. You might just find yourself with that je ne sais quoi glow, and the French would certainly approve of a beautiful piece of romantic rouge lingerie.

So grab your scarlet underthings, have just a touch too much Champagne, and toast to the possibilities of the New Year!

Yours,
Kate

To Begin

adore this quote I recently came upon: "You don't find yourself, you create yourself." How very true that is.

I find it even truer as I move along the years in my life. The last few spins around the sun have brought happiness, accomplishments of goals, realizations that I should no longer be wearing minidresses, and new perspectives-- along, of course, with anxieties about the future, missed opportunities, etc.

What motivates this blog is the inspiration I find every day for the kind of person I hope to create-- sophisticated, yet down-to-earth; graceful yet grounded; deep yet accessible; intellectual and curious, yet simple and empathetic.

I hope that some of the quotes, music, books, fashion, art, and other tidbits shared here will inspire you to go out and find what will help you create your best self on your own walk down the road.

Yours,
Kate
